When Life Gives You Lemons

Life doesn't always go the way we plan. You're working hard. Everything is falling into place, right? You think things are rolling right along and then Wham! You have to go back and regroup. Reassess the situation and start again. What do you do when life just seems to crumble around you, when things seemed to be going so well? Sometimes jobs fall through or clients don't pay. Sometimes our loved ones hurt us. If you learn to trust yourself, then it becomes easier to go with the flow and bounce back.

Currently, I'm dealing with the situation of a client not paying and a couple of contracts fell through. I took time out of my writing to prepare for one of the jobs because it was supposed to be pretty large. I needed to brush up on lots of information in the industry, which I had not touched in a couple of years. Suddenly, it's been a ghost town the past couple of weeks. As you can imagine, I'm a little perturbed, but more with myself than anything else. I should have remembered to keep my backup plans in order. You can never have too many backup plans. I'm not completely back at square one, but I've had to reassess where I am and the steps I need to take to get back on the fast track.

I haven't posted much because I've been busy with writing and building up my network, which I said I was going to do several months ago, but on my work from home blog that you can find here. I was not always as social media savvy as I am now AND I'm still learning. I've come a long way, with no plans to stop. My network is extremely important, so I've been focusing more on that because the other things were supposedly already taken care of. It's OK, I'm at a point where I can slow a little on my network to focus on the other tasks that require more of my attention now. I believe in the quality of my work and my abilities to get past these hurdles. That's the important part.

Also, let me point out that dividing a large task into smaller tasks is always the best route. In order to tackle large tasks, break them down into smaller tasks. They won't seem as daunting. It's encouraging to finish each task until you're completely done. Trying to finish everything at once is overwhelming. You might feel as though you can't get anything done.

Just remember, you can NEVER have too many backup plans. If something happens, trust that you will find a way to work it out. Become like the water and be able to flow with the twists, turns and sudden drops that life presents to you.

Many blessings,
~ Penelope ~
